Description:

The Museum Education Assistant is responsible for leading tours in the Garth & Jerri Frehner Museum of Natural History, maintaining a welcoming staff presence during museum hours, and interacting with the general public. A qualified candidate will read through tour materials and present museum tours to groups (of 5 to 30 elementary students) in a way that gets visitors excited about science. This education program is run in conjunction with the Southern Utah Museum of Art. Other responsibilities will include assisting with collection preservation and care.

Qualifications:

deal candidates will be able to assist with at least 2 tours per week. Work hours are as follows: Monday through Friday 9:15-11:45 am, and Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 12:45-3:15 pm. The museum is open from Tuesday through Friday from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, which means that a variety of shifts may be available for coverage. Candidates must be responsible, independent, and punctual. Must be comfortable interacting with the general public, especially children. Background in education, science, art, or museum studies is preferred. Preferred candidates will be able to work one full tour-shift of two hours back-to-back per day to qualify.
